Scholars in Residence

This year we will have the pleasure to host two prominent scholars-in-residence: Alex Corcias (Venezuela) and Andrew Shaw (London).

Alex Corcias was born in Caracas, Venezuela (1980) to a warm family of Marrocan inmigrants. Graduated in Administrative Sciences from the Metropolitan University, where he received honorable mention for his study work on Entrepreneurship.

For more than a decade he dedicated to study in Yeshivot and Kolelim in Israel (Aish Hatorah, Binyan Olam, Yeshivat Mir). He graduated from the Rabbi Program in Education of the Ner le Elef World Organization. He served as a writer for the TaShema Project for 3 years.

  1. Alex has touch hundreds of hearts in all his programs. He served as a counselor at the Coach Hatodaa Coaching School in Israel and is certified as a Life Coach and Lecturer by the Israeli NLP Center and the US NFNLP. He has shared his workshops “Activate all your Power” and “Discover your Greatness” with young people from Argentina, Panama, Chile, Mexico and Venezuela.

He currently lives in Bet Shemesh with his wife Liseth and their children. He offers advice and gives workshops focused on Coaching with Purpose and Passion. In addition, he participates as Manager of the Hayeladim Shelanu Organization, which offers advanced Neuroscience programs in schools in Israel.

Alex is also the author of the book Purpose: The central axis of an exciting life and the Online Course How to overcome your fears and take control of your life. And the Founder of a Coaching P&P (Porpuse and Passion), a unique combination of Jewish Wisdom and Coaching techniques to get clarity and energy for an extraordinary life.

Rabbi Shaw is the CEO of Mizrachi UK. Previously he was a Director of the United Synagogue and Community Rabbi at Stanmore Synagogue.

He attended Leeds University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Fuel and Energy Engineering. While at University he began to create initiatives to engage Jewish students which led him to take a role in the Union of Jewish Students where he spearheaded the 50 days for 50 years Holocaust remembrance project for 5000 students.

He then embarked on a rabbinical training programme both in Israel and New York.

He took up his first post in the UK in 2000 as the Assistant Rabbi of Stanmore United Synagogue, the largest Orthodox synagogue in Europe. Later he became the Community Rabbi. While there he created a whole range of innovative programmes which led to him being asked in Oct 2002 to create a new organisation focussed on the younger members of the United Synagogue.

Tribe was born in Jan 2003 and he became the Executive Director. Tribe now has over 20,000 members and is revolutionising the British community with its network of clubs, trips, programmes, camps and tours.

He has also been responsible for the creation of the 60 days and 70 days Holocaust initiatives and the 60 days for 60 years Israel programme – all programmes went global with over 350,000 Jews participating in the three projects.

In January 2010 Rabbi Shaw was appointed the Director of Living and Learning, a new strategic initiative to take the successes of Tribe to a wider and broader community. In January 2014 he took on a new role as Director of Strategy and Development  of the United Synagogue involved with helping communities reach their potential interms of staffing and programmes.

In January 2016 Rabbi Shaw was appointed CEO of Mizrachi UK where he is developing the future Modern Orthodox leadership for the community. He is also part of the Rabbinic Group that works with the Holocaust Education Trust taking 6th formers to Auschwitz Birkenau for the day.

Rabbi Shaw speaks widely both in the UK and in the USA, South Africa and Israel.

He is married to Gila, with two sons.
